Halloween 2013

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow is Halloween.  If your child wants to, your child can dress up for the whole day tomorrow.  Please note the following restrictions to costumes at school due to safety:

  • no masks or anything that covers you child’s face
  • no weapons

Please feel free to use face-paint, or other accessories to help your child’s costume.  However, if your child has a very delicate costume and has a risk to be damaged perhaps send them to school in another costume for the day. I would be very sad if anything happened to his/her costume during the day and would spoil the evening trick-or-treat fun.

If your child wants to bring some treats please make sure there is enough for everyone in the class.  We have 24 students.  Please also make sure that there are no nut products in the treats due to a nut allergy in the classroom.  Also, if you are sending something, please make sure it is easy for your child to pass out.  Cakes will not be cut and passed out, and will be sent home.

Thank you and Happy Halloween!

Today was great!

Hello Division 20,

Wow, what a day!  We had a busy day in the classroom.  All of our community workers were so amazing.  They were busy from 9:30 right up till 2:00.  We had 8 classes visit us and all of our workers showed the other students how they help in the community.  Did you know we had doctors, dentists, librarians, Hapkido teachers, a police officer, a fireman, chefs, veterinarians, an artist, a scientist, a singer, teachers, a mechanic and a construction worker today in the class?  By 2 pm, the community helpers were exhausted.  I guess they now know what it is like to “work” at a job now.  I saw lots of tired faces by the end of the day.

Thank you to all the parents who were able to come by for a visit.  I took some pictures and I will post them on the outside window once I get them developed.

Don’t forget tomorrow is Hot Food Day, Pizza Day.  Please send money a plate and a napkin. At the school we are trying to reduce the amount of waste created at lunch time.  If you can send a plate and a napkin it is much appreciated.

See you,

Mme Rode

Community Day tomorrow

Hello Division 20,

Tomorrow we will be having our community day.  Please feel free to drop by the classroom and check out our community helpers.  If you plan on coming by during the school day please pop into the office and let them know you are coming down the hall so they know who is in the building during school hours.

Also, one of my helpers needs some help with his costume.  If you have anything for a firefighter at your house can you please bring it to school tomorrow. I only have a fire hat in Ava’s dress up box so if you have anything else at your place can you send it to school to help us out.  That would be much appreciated (please label the item too so I can send it back to the correct house).

The community day will start at 9:30.  The students need some time to get settled before the big day ahead.

See you tomorrow.

P.S. Nothing to do with community day but Wednesday is Pizza Day (Hot Food Day) Pizza is 2$ a slice and juice boxes 1$ and treats (chips 1$).  The hot food committee would like for the students to bring their own plates and napkins.

Community Day

Hello Division 20,

On Tuesday we will be having our community day.  Please have your child bring his/her props to school on Monday so we can get the classroom all set up for Tuesday.  We will be getting the room all ready on Monday so the more we have at school the better.

Have a great weekend. I enjoyed meeting you all this week.

Enjoy the pumpkins that were brought home today.

See you,

Mme Rode

Community Day

Hello Division 20,

Yesterday, I sent home a newsletter about our Community Day that will be happening next Tuesday, October 29th.  Today your child shared who he/she would like to become.  Please help your child find some props or print up some pictures so they can change his/her desk into a “work” office.  Parents are welcome to drop in a check out our community.  We will open up our “community” at 9:30-10:15, 11:00-12:00, and from 1:00-2:30 (we have PE at 2:30 that day).

The props do not have to be anything elaborate.  Have your child use his/her imagination for this activity.

If you have any questions send a note in the agenda or come and see me.

See you,

Mme Rode

Pumpkin Patch this week

Dear Parents,

On Thursday, we will be going to the Pumpkin Patch.  We will be leaving the school at approximately 10 am and returning back to the school by 1.

Please make sure your child has the following items for the fieldtrip:

  • warm clothing
  • rubber boots
  • 2 plastic bags, one for the pumpkin and one for the rubber boots
  • clean runners to wear on the bus back to the school  (the bus company charges us extra for a messy bus so we need to do our best to minimize the dirt in the bus)
  • small pocket sized snacks to eat at the pumpkin patch

Parents, if you are coming, please meet by my classroom by 9:55.  It would be great if you could transport the pumpkins back to the school after the fieldtrip.  Just an FYI, these pumpkins can be very muddy so please keep that in mind when you are putting the pumpkins in your car (perhaps putting a plastic sheet down or cover the surface with garbage bags to help keep your car clean).

See you,

Mme Rode

Photo Day tomorrow

Hello Division 20,

Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow will be individual picture day.  We usually have our pictures very early in the day, usually before recess.  If you want your child to change out of his/her picture day clothes, please make sure you send extra clothes for changing into (I don’t want to use the spare clothes that are stored in the classroom).

Thank you,

Mme Rode

5 photos for tomorrow

Hello Division 20,

This is a reminder for the 5 photos for tomorrow.  Please send in the hard copies so we can use them in class to make a little community booklet.  For some ideas of places to visit, please scroll down to the post from Friday and check out the list.

Thank you,
