Growing Chefs!

Hello Division 19,

I am so excited to share that we will be starting the Growing Chefs program in the class.  Growing Chefs is program that is offered in some Greater Vancouver schools to get kids excited about growing, cooking, and eating good, healthy food. In the program, chef volunteers are paired with classrooms to give students hands-on gardening and cooking experience.  Our class has been paired with the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel.  I had the pleasure of working with the chefs from the Fairmont Vancouver Airport last year and it was such a fantastic experience.

Our first Growing Chefs lesson will be Tuesday April 3rd.  The chefs will be coming to our class every 2 weeks and will be doing lessons with us about growing plants.

This year we are lucky to have the program paid for us by a generous donor.

I can’t wait for Tuesday.  It will be so much fun.  Tuesday is planting day!

Fun things to do over the break!

Hello Division 19!

You didn’t think I would go 2 weeks without posting here on the blog….

I found this family fun website this morning.  On the top 20 menu you can see this bloggers top 20 family fun activities in the Vancouver area.  I might check some of them out with Ava during the next 2 weeks.

Yesterday was crazy hair day!  I took some pictures of the students with their crazy hair.  If you would like me to email you the picture (I won’t be putting it up on the blog for privacy reasons) please let me know when we come back from the break.  Just write your email in your child’s agenda and I will send out the pictures.  I loved seeing how creative they all were.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Crazy Hair Day!

Hello Division 19!

Tomorrow is crazy hair day in Division 19.  The students have worked so hard during language centers and have earned a fun theme day.  So don’t be alarmed when tomorrow your child wants to do something crazy with his/her hair!

Should be a fun day.

See you,

Counting money

Hello Division 19,

This past week the students were practicing skip counting using money.  It would be great if you could continue this important life skill at home with your child.  Below are links that focus on counting Canadian money.  Also, it would be fun to get your child to count the change in your wallet.  It does two things….gets them counting and helps you know how much change you have!

Newsletters and calendars

Hello Division 19!

Can you believe that it is already March and that Spring Break is just around the corner?  Wow!

Here is the class calendar for the month of March.  This month I have made it a PDF file just in case people were having problems opening the other calendars as a word document.

March calendar

I will not be doing a newsletter for this month as we will be continuing with what we have been doing in February.  However, we are doing numbers right now for both grades in Math (to 100 and 999) and it would be wonderful if you could practice number names in French, skip counting and counting money with your child.

I have some skip counting songs that I will post in my songs page.  The songs really help children remember how to count.

Here is the school newsletter for the month of March.

Please check out the Kidblog (link is on the side margin).  The students have become blogging machines!

Have a wonderful day!
